Lourdés Arizpe

Lourdes Arizpe, a Mexican social anthropologist received a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Florida at Gainesville.

 

She was Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO and an advisor to the United Nations Commission on Culture and Development. She was a member to the Academic Faculty of the Global Economic Forum at Davos.

 

The American Anthropological Association created the “Lourdes Arizpe Award in Ecology and Policy”. At the United Nations she participated in the group of “Eminent Persons for the Dialogue among Civilizations”.

 

She received the award of the “Palmes Académiques” from France, the Medal for Academic Merit of the Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico and, in 2022, the International Award of the International Union of Cities and Local Governments.
